HYDERABAD: The state Assembly on Wednesday mourned the death of eight school children who lost their lives in the bus mishap in a canal at Raghavapuram near Kothagudem in Khammam district on Tuesday. All political parties unanimously demanded action against the school managements which are flouting norms while operating school buses putting the lives of children at risk. The government is also contemplating to launch a drive against those school operating  buses without valid licences for drivers.

Secondary education minister K Parthasaradhi informed the Assembly that the state government has ordered  a probe into the incident and will initiate action against the Dr LV Reddy Memorial School including cancellation of recognition if any lapses were found.  The minister said that the government will also consider suggestions made by the legislators to provide insurance cover to all schoolchildren.

Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) took suo motu of the incident and issued notices to the chief secretary, school education and the transport commissioners demanding an explanation over the incident.
