HYDERABAD: Police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse two clashing groups of the same community at Saidabad in the old city during prayer time on Sunday. According to the police, a group of people belonging to the dominant sect went to the Ahmadiya mosque and asked the devotees to stop their prayers.

An argument ensued which led to stone-throwing on business establishments in the vicinity. Saidabad police inspector K Narsing said that some locals abused the people present at the mosque saying that they were not Muslims and told them to immediately stop the prayers.

They distributed some pamphlets which those inside the mosque found objectionable. The agitated devotees tried to push out the miscreants and a scuffle ensued between the two groups.

In the melee both the groups hurled stones on each other but no one was injured. Police alerted higher officials who rushed special teams to the place to defuse the situation. Meanwhile, some Muslim organisations lodged a complaint with the police on the issue. Mohammed Arshad Ali Quasmi, state general secretary of Majlis Tahfuz Khatam Nuwwat Trust, alleged that Ahmadiyas distributed blasphemous printed material at the mosque.

Worker buried under sand tractor stalker attacks girl in B’chalam

KARIMNAGAR: Katakam Rajesh(21), a worker involved in transporting sand, died after falling in a granite pit along with a tractor-trolley. The incident took place at Elagandla around 4.30 a.m. on Sunday. According to sources, Rajesh was working for Kurma Raju, owner of a tractor involved in transporting sand from Khajipur sand reach illegally. As usual, Rajesh left for work around 8 p.m.

on Saturday night because illegal transportation is done in the nights to avoid trouble from officers.

Learning about the illegal transportation, revenue staff reached Khajipur sand reach and on seeing them, drivers of two tractors drove their vehicles away from the place. Rajesh, a native of Elagandla in Karimnagar mandal, sat on a heap of sand filled in another tractor and the driver, in a bid to escape from the place, raised the speed of the vehicle and lost control of it. The tractor fell in a granite pit along with Rajesh and he died on the spot but the driver managed to escape.

Police registered a case and began investigation.

Bhadrachalam: An 18-year-old girl was attacked with a knife by a stalker here at AMC colony on Sunday afternoon. The girl, who suffered grievous injuries was undergoing treatment at Bhadrachalam government hospital.

her condition is said to be stable. According to police, Vanaparthi Srinivas (23) of the same colony has been harassing the girl in the name of love for the past several months.

Unable to bear the constant harassment, she informed the matter to her parents recently who in turn lodged a complaint with the Bhadrachalam police two days back. The police later counselled both the parties. On Sunday afternoon the girl was attacked with a knife by Srinivas when she was returning home from a nearby kirana shop. She suffered injuries in the abdomen. When she cried for help, Srinivas escaped from the scene. She was later shifted to the government area hospital.

Batsman dies in cricket scuffle

CHITTOOR: In a shocking incident, a youth M Vinayakam (25) from Adivikothuru, Nagiri mandal died in a scuffle between two cricket teams on Sunday.

A dispute arose between two teams following umpire declaring Vinayakam, who was batting for Adivikothuru team against Rajulukandriga team, out.

Vinayakam who protested the decision was supported by his team and this resulted in a heated argument, which ultimately led both the teams coming to blows. Vinayakam died when Ramprasad, from the rival team, kicked him in the stomach with his knee

Security guard found murdered

HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old private security guard was found murdered at his office in East Marredpally on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Rahul, hailing from Assam. He was working as a security in-charge with Top Star Security Services at Mahendra Hills crossroads in Secunderabad. He stayed at the office.

Police suspect that his colleagues were involved in the killing as Rahul’s two relievers did not answer the calls. The employees on night duty informed Naveen, who runs the agency, that Rahul was not answering their phone calls.

Rahul’s head was smashed with dumbbells.
