378 red sanders logs seizes

Forest staff have seized red sanders logs worth Rs 2 crore and arrested five persons after raiding several places on Thursday night and in the early hours of Friday. According to forest officials, they have seized eight vehicles and as many as 378 logs weighing about 11 tonne.

The forest staff seized 75 logs and a lorry near Srinivasamangapuram around 11 pm. They also seized an Ambassador car near Narasingapuram railway gate and recovered 13 logs at 11:30 pm on Thursday.

Another 50 logs were seized from two vans at Chinnaramapuram of Chandragiri mandal and 19 more logs from a jeep near Srivari Mettu at 12:30 am on Friday. In the wee hours of Friday, the forest staff have seized 125 logs and a lorry at Mukkoti bridge of Chandragiri mandal and arrested three persons.

At Vedaralacheruvu on the Renigunta- Srikalahasthi road, forest staff seized 45 red sanders logs and a van. They also recovered 51 logs and seized a lorry near Chandamamapalle railway track and arrested two. However, in all the raids, large number of smugglers managed to escape the arrest, where the forest personal only detained 5 persons

Tenali youth dies in US mishap

Guntur: A 26-year-old post graduate from Tenali was killed in a road accident in California on October 3. D Gautham did his MS from North Texas University. When Gautham failed to answer their phone calls, his parents inquired the matter and came to know that he died in a road mishap.
