One month after he took a superintendent of police as hostage, head constable K N Giri Prasad Sharma was suspended here on Friday.
The police took a month to initiate action against Sharma, who had staged the hostage drama for more than five hours under full public view.
Giri Sharma was dismissed by the police officials under Article 311 (Dismissal, removal or reduction in rank of persons employed in civil capacities under the Union or a State) of the Constitution.
Sharma held SP Lakshminarayana as hostage in a building near Birla Mandir, demanding that his suspension be revoked.
The incident took place on September 12.
Sharma freed Lakshminarayana only after DGP V Dinesh Reddy gave assurance of fulfilling his demand.
Though cases were registered against Sharma under various sections, he was not asrrested for unknown reasons.
