Tension prevailed at Osmania University on Friday night when girls from the campus hostels held a rally and protested against the bad food and condition of the varsity’s hostels.
Police barricaded entrances from both sides, allowing vehicles to pass only after the situation in the campus calmed down.
The protest began at around 9 pm and went on for more than an hour.
It ended after vice-chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana rushed to the spot and brought things under control by assuring the students that their grievances would be addressed.
ACP of OU police station J Ranjan Kumar said normalcy returned in the university by 10.30 pm.
This was the second time that OU was barricaded this week.
Earlier on Wednesday, a bandh call was given by student organisations and the university remained closed amidst fear of violence.
