‘End opencast mining of coal in Telangana’

BJP state president G Kishan Reddy has demanded that the central government should put an end to opencast mining in the Singareni coal mines in the north Telangana due to its adverse fallout on the ecology and also human life.

The government had remained a mute spectator to this damage. The participants of the conference should visit Singareni  collieries to know the Indian government’s  commitment to biodiversity, he said. Kishan Reddy wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister on opencast mining issue and released it to media here on Monday.

Four Telangana districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khamamm, the river belt areas of Godavari, were turning into burial grounds due to opencast mining creating serious ecological imbalances and acute drinking water shortage, he said.
