Claiming that Hyderabad has become the most preferred venue to host international conferences such as the ongoing CoP-11 convention here, chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said the the city will host two more prestigious events, World Allergic Conference in December and World Agriculture Conference in January.
Participating in the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day function held at Charminar to commemorate the yatra undertaken by the former prime minister in 1990 there, CM said Hyderabad was the fastest growing city in the country and it was endorsed by none other than prime minister Manmohan Singh during his recent visit.
Pleased by the speedy growth of Hyderabad, the PM sanctioned National Institute of Design and National University of Life Sciences campuses to the city, he said.
Calling himself a true Hyderabadi, CM said he would develop the City of Pearls further to international standards.
“I was born and brought up in this city. Our government has built a 158 km-long Outer Ring Road around Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 6,800 crore. Such a road exists nowhere in the world except in China.
Construction of metro rail project at a cost of Rs14,000 crore has been speeded up,” he said.
Stating tha t Hyderabad was a symbol of communal harmony, Kiran Kumar Reddy said his government would strive hard to develop the old city on a par with the new city and listed out the schemes. He said the government increased the budget for modernisation of Nizamia Unani Hospital from Rs 3 crore to Rs 4.5 crore, sanctioned another Rs 15 crore for the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority and identified a 100-acre land for a housing complex for poor families in the old city.
Telangana lawyers try to disrupt Kiran’s speech
HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy witnessed protests by members of the Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee during the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day function at Charminar here on Friday.
As soon as the chief minister began speaking, the advocates, shouting pro- Telangana slogans, tried to barge their way to the dais.
Ignoring the disruption, the chief minister continued his speech. Police swung into action and took the advocates into custody.
