IAF station staffer shoots self

A 52-year-old security guard working at the Indian Air Force station at Hakimpet near here died on the spot after he shot himself with his service rifle here on Friday.

Reasons for him taking the extreme step are no yet known. The deceased, D Sashi, was a native of Alleppey in Kerala.

“At 10. 37 am, the IAF staff heard a loud bang and as they rushed to find the source of the noise, they saw Sashi lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The staff then alerted the police, who rushed to the spot,” Alwal inspector B Pushpan Kumar said. He said that Sashi reported for duty at 9. 45 am and relieved the two guards on duty there. Around 10. 37 am, Sashi committed suicide.

“Initial probe revealed that Sashi might have committed suicide due to family issues. He had recently returned from a visit to his native place. His wife and children are staying in Alleppey. We have already informed his family members,” Kumar said.
