Couple crushed to death

A 27-year-old marketing executive and his wife (25), who was a nurse at a private hospital in Narsingi, were crushed to death under a heavy vehicle here on Sunday.

The couple were heading to a church when the mishap occurred.

According to the police, the duo were on way to Kukatpally from Balapur to attend prayers in a church when a 10-wheeler hit their bike and they died on the spot.

The victims -- J Chinni Babu (27), and Mani Kumari (25) -- were natives of Nandyal in Kurnool district and residents of Prashanti Nagar in Balapur.

Chinni Babu was a marketing executive in a reputed fertiliser firm.

“Around 4.30 a.m. on Sunday, the couple reached Mozamjahi market on their bike when the heavy vehicle hit the bike,” said Afzulgunj sub inspector D Ram Prasad.

The vehicle driver who noticed the accident fled from the place abandoning the vehicle.

After being alerted by locals, police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. Police registered a case against the driver under section 304 (A) (negligence) of IPC and investigation is on.
