A public interest petition was filed in the AP High Court against the government for its alleged negligence in issuance of Encumbrance Certificates (ECs) to people dealing with landed properties.
Petitioners M Ravi Kumar, an advocate from Vijayawada, and two others requested the High Court to direct the authorities concerned to take steps to rectify loopholes in the software available with the Sub-Registrar and Mee Seva centres for speedy issuance of ECs.
The principal secretary to revenue, the commissioner of registrations, the secretary to Income Tax department were named as respondents.
