What happens when our obsession with celebrity news meets online games? You get PopSalad. The CEO and founder, Seattle-based Brad Coulter, tells us that it is “Hollywood and Wall Street’s secret love child” that allows players to invest in and sell celebrities based on online buzz. Based on the concept of fantasy football, it gets  you investing in players before new film releases, award nominations or general craziness hit the headlines in reality. “We felt that the celebrity entertainment world was under served by games and didn’t have a product like PopSalad. We fell in love with the space and believed it was a great fit,” Coulter says.

Celebrity buzz

All about having fun, PopSalad is ideal for those whose guilty pleasure is celebrity news. You really need to know your celebrities well and put this knowledge to use. “Essentially, this site is built on an active and targeted search engine. We look for the latest news and score its relevance. The more mentions on the more popular sources a celebrity garners, the higher their value goes on PopSalad,” Coulter explains.

Going pro

Not only does this site make trolling the web fun, do check out the Player’s Club. It allows a player to accumulate credit for purchases made outside PopSalad. So shopping on Amazon, Macy’s and several hundred sites will only make you a richer buyer. While it may get you completely hooked like it has us, we suggest you sit back and watch the show until you jump into the stock exchange.
