Hyderabad blasts: NIA to quiz Maqbool, Imran

NIA to quiz the two IM operatives on Dilsukhanagar blasts

Failing to get any breakthrough in the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) hopes to get some information that could possibly throw some light on the perpetrators when it grills Syed Maqbool and Imran Khan, the two suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives who are lodged in the Tihar prison.

The two IM operatives will be brought to the city in a day or two after getting custody. “They confessed to have conducted a reccee of the Hyderabad area. They might be knowing the exact plan of their handlers and more particularly Riyaz Bhaktal, who is suspected to be the brain behind the IM’s operations in India,’’ investigators said. As part of the probe, Maqbool would be brought to the Dilsukhnagar blast site area and also to the places where he had conducted reccee in July last year.

Investigators would also like to know the hideout of the IM operatives who stayed in the city and also the local persons who helped them during their stay.

“They could not have pulled off the operation without local support. They might have been provided logistical support from local elements and we suspect they might be the one who perpetrated the twin blasts,’’ officials said.

“All hopes are pinned on questioning of Maqbool. We hope to achieve some breakthrough in the case by grilling him. Otherwise, we will be left clueless in the case,’’ an investigating officer said.

Maqbool, however, is a hard nut to crack, the investigators admitted but said their focus would be on identifying other IM operatives in country But for the NIA, the job would not be that easy as they have given only four days custody of the suspected IM operatives.
