Aah, the holidays! It’s the time to relax, stretch your legs, catch your breath, and have marathon binges. While we may pamper ourselves because we ‘deserve’ it after working our butts off, you’ll probably have a bigger butt at the end of the vacation. Well, if you’ve just realised where all those calories from the mango has settled, don’t fret. We tell give you a few simple solutions to keep your weight steady.
Exercise and proper dieting are the obvious ways to go about staying healthy while you laze about, but just a few tweaks will make the regime more effective.
The most obvious way around meals is to make sure your have a heavy breakfast at the right time in the morning, and diminish your portions through the day. Leafy vegetables and citrus fruit should be made compulsory in your meals.
For snacks, try out a variety of salads with fruits and vegetables. If you are screwing your face up at the thought of eating raw veggies, go ahead and indulge in some mayonnaise and salad dressing. Just don’t go over the top.
Watching what you eat will do half the trick, the other half is burning what you eat. Take a walk when you feel bored or if your friends and family have bailed on you. Taking a stroll or jogging in the morning is a great way to boost your metabolism, in turn burning more fat than usual.
It’s the summer, so fish out your swimming trunks go take a dip at your closest pool, or take a bicylce ride along Necklace road in the morning; you can hire a bike for an hour.
The vacation is also a great way to overcome your two left feet. Dance classes are plenty across the city and are also a great way to socialise and make new friends.
Hyderabad has quite a few parks that are tucked away in the city itself, KBR park for instance.
Take your kids along for a day in the park, play frisbee, take a jog, play tag. Just make sure you keep your body engaged and cover about three kilometres.
There’s also the ‘Zumba’ rage that you can check out. Always wondered what it was? Well, what better time to find out? It’s a mix of dance and aerobics, so if Salsa isn’t your thing, then maybe Zumba is. With the choreography including a mix of hip hop, samba and martial arts, it’s a great workout that burns as much as 1000 calories at one go.
If all of this is too much sweat (which means you’re actually keeping shape), then practise yoga instead. Besides strengthening your body, it will bring some flexibility to your body and some inner peace as well.
