300 mw additional power purchase from Friday

Purchase of additional 300 mw power for the state will commence on Friday and go on till May 20, 2014, in view of increasing demand for power.

It will be besides getting optimum electricity from APGenco and Central power generating stations to overcome the shortfall. Earlier, discoms have called tenders on the e-Procurement platform for the purchase of 2000 mw round-the-clock-power. In all, 12 bidders have participated. After several rounds of negotiations involving the committee constituted by the government with private power generators, southern region generators and state generators, the final rates were arrived at.

Power will be purchased form the state generators at Rs 5.45/kwh; southern region generators at Rs 6.07/kwh; and outside southern region generators at Rs 4.30/kwh. The new price is less than the APERC rates for 2013-14, said a release from the Energy Coordination Cell.
