Catch the French film Blame it on Voltaire directed by the award winning Abdellatif Kechiche on Friday, October 18 at 6:30pm. The movie Released in the year 2000, Blame it on Voltaire narrates the experiences of a young North African illegal immigrant in Paris dealing with authorities suspicious about his papers, poverty, unemployment, racism, and tempestuous relationships. He struggles to survive in a land that often pays mere lip service to Voltaire’s ideals. Surviving one breakdown after another, the movie dips into a steep trough just as you think things are getting better for our protagonist as he gets caught up by the one things he has managed to elude – the Law. With some fine acting, this is a gritty social realistic film that is compelling but mercifully peppered with humour and vibrant energy.

Blame it on Voltaire is written and directed by Abdellatif Kechiche who was awarded the ‘Palme d’Or’ at the Festival of Cannes for La Vie d’Adèle in 2013 and ‘Luigi De Laurentiis Award’ for First Film at the Venice International Film Festival in 2000.
