'Tomb' for Sonia raises many eyebrows

The construction of a ‘tomb’ for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Tirupati by Samaikyandhra protestors created a flutter in Congress circles.

From Union minister K Chiranjeevi to several Congress politicos condemned it and demanded that the state government bring the culprits to the book.

“Some vested interests in the guise of United Andhra agitators are trying to portray the AICC chief in a poor light for their selfish political ends. The state government should identify the perpetrators behind this disgraceful act and bring them to book,” Chiranjeevi demanded.

Minister Danam Nagender organised a protest demonstration against it on Wednesday by taking out a rally to Indira Gandhi statue near Necklace Road here.

He performed a ritual using pumpkins to the photo of the AICC supremo to ward off evil and demanded that the government act tough against those persons who had built the tomb for Sonia.

Meanwhile, some Telangana Congress leaders came down heavily on the chief minister alleging that Kiran Reddy was not acting against the perpetrators.

Rajya Sabha member Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar criticised the chief minister, saying that Kiran Reddy was not acting tough against the agitators who had built the tomb at Tirupati, in his native Chittoor district.

In a letter written to the chief minister On Wednesday, the MP flayed Kiran Reddy as the incident took place in Tirupati.

Alleging TDP hand behind the act, Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar said, “Everybody knows that Sonia Gandhi has decided to bifurcate AP only after TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu gave his consent. If at all any tomb is to be built for those responsible for the division of AP, then it should be for Naidu.”

TRS MP G Vivekananda also condemned the act. He said Sonia Gandhi had decided to deliver Telangana state as a true leader only after all political parties in Andhra Pradesh had demanded the same.
