HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway has advised passengers not to perform ‘aarti’ in train coaches for safety.

The zone said in a press release on Sunday that some passengers, especially south-bound pilgrims, have the habit of performing aarti as part of puja by burning camphor and lighting match-sticks and incense sticks.

It has advised passengers to desist from such practices since carrying any type of inflammable material and making fire in any form inside the trains or on other railway premises is strictly prohibited.

Such acts endanger safety and may result in fire hazards endangering human lives and railway property.

These activities constitute a punishable offence under the Railways Act-1989 for which the offender is liable to be punished with an imprisonment up to three years or a fine of Rs 1,000 or both, besides being liable for the loss or injury or damage to property.
