Telangana Vidyavantula Vedika , Centre for Dalit Studies and Democracy Dialogues will jointly organise an international seminar on ‘Democracy, Socialism and the Vision for the 21st Century’ here from March 7 to 10.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, former MLC and reception committee chairman Chukka Ramaiah, TVV president Mallepalli Lakshmaiah, Anveshi Resource Centre for Women representatives K Lalitha and Rama Melkote said that after the 2008 economic crisis the world was again moving towards socialism and many countries had come out of imperialist rule and this particular international seminar was being organised to discuss the issues connected with the latest developments and future implications.

The seminar will be used to bring all the socialist thinkers and workers from across the world on a common platform and discuss the future course of action for spreading socialism across the world, Ramaiah said.

Along with socialist movement, Dalit and women movements were also on rise and people are again moving towards socialism, he said.

Rama Melkote said that a few years back it was believed that Communism and socialism had become irrelevant and people rejected them but after the world economic crisis people were again moving towards socialism. The revolution that took place in Egypt, Syria and other third world countries were the result of a change in the attitude of the people and the downfall of capitalist forces, she said.

Speakers from more than 25 countries will take part in the four-day seminar. “We have invited people who have been part of various movements and have been part of socialist movement for a long time. The seminar will be attended by a range of people from intellectuals, activists from social movements, left and progressive parties, trade unions, civil society, radical dalit and women groups,” she said.
