AP Student Dies as Wall Caves in at NIT, Kerala

A 19-year-old AP student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kozhikode, died after receiving serious head injuries after a 20-feet wall collapsed and fell on him on Saturday. The mishap took place when the victim was playing cricket on the campus.

A 19-year-old AP student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kozhikode, died after receiving serious head injuries after a 20-feet wall collapsed and fell on him on Saturday. The mishap took place when the victim was playing cricket on the campus.

According to NIT officials, the victim has been identified as Mannam Venkateswarlu, a native of Kopparam village in Prakasam district. He was  pursing second year computer science at NIT.

The Parent Teacher Association secretary and Head of Department (HoD) of Computer Science, NIT, Kozhikode, SD Madhu Kumar told Express over phone that when Venkateswarlu was playing cricket along with his friends, a wall suddenly collapsed.

Venkateswarulu received serious head injuries  as bricks and debris fell on him.

Other students who noticed the wall collapsing managed to run away and alerted the officials.

The debris was cleared and Venkateswarulu was shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

His family members in Prakasam district were informed about the news. They are expected to arrive by Sunday morning, Madhu Kumar said.
