With ever increasing demand for power, the state government has decided to include the entire force of self-help groups of over 10 lakh, consisting of around 1.2 crore women members, in energy conservation mission.
It was also contemplated to involve National Green Corps (NGC) to take up energy conservation awareness activities to educate students across the state.
The State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) which met here on Saturday decided to implement energy conservation round-the-year. All the departments were instructed to save energy for achieving overall estimated savings of around 15,000 million units.
All key departments like industry, agriculture, MA&UD, panchayat raj, R&B, rural development, etc. have to form their own department-wise energy conservation cells to continuously monitor energy conservation activities in their respective departments.
Instructions to this effect were given by chief secretary PK Mohanty.
Mohanty emphasised that energy conservation activities should go along with promotion of solar, especially in government departments and the Secretariat. The chief secretary also desired to implement comprehensive communication strategy to involve each and every consumer for treating energy conservation as social responsibility.
Officials informed the chief secretary that the Central University of Hyderabad has come forward to include ‘Energy Economics’ in its curriculum for highlighting the significance of energy efficiency and conservation measures with the full support and cooperation of SECM for the benefit of future generations.
The State Energy Conservation Mission chairman PK Mohanty said that a review meeting on various implementation activities of energy efficiency and conservation would be held here on January 10.
Top officials like special chief secretary, Energy, principal secretaries of finance, MA&UD, agriculture, industry, panchayat raj, rural development, secretary RWS, CMDS of APTransco and APCPDCL, GHMC, HMDA, I&PR, VC&MD/NREDCAP, representatives of CII, FICCI, FAPCCI and others will attend the meeting on January 10.
The agenda of the proposed meeting includes action plan for replacement of old motors and pumpsets in rural and urban water supply schemes, awareness activities to be taken up to encourage ID crops in rabi season, implementation of energy conservation building (ECB) code and other related issues.
