In the near future, you will not be left wondering when the next RTC bus arrives at the bus stop.
The APSRTC is presently working on ‘Unique Bus Shelter ID’ project through which commuters will get information about the buses plying between two bus stops and their arrival time also, on their mobile phones.
Under this project, initially the corporation is assigning unique IDs to 1,170 bus stops in the city. “Commuters have to send an SMS to a designated number of the corporation specifying unique ID of the bus stop they are going to board a bus, boarding and ending points like ‘Khairatabad to Secunderabad railway station and time of travel,’’ said R V Jayanth, chief engineer, IT, APSRTC.
He said that in return, commuters will get the list of buses plying between the stops at the specified timings through SMS. The same information can be sought through internet. Apart from this the corporation is mulling to provide information through its call centre.
Coding bus stops with unique ID, which is part of ‘Vehicle Traffic and Passenger Information System’ was started four months ago. It will be completed in a month after which pilot project will be introduced. Full scale operations will be rolled out after five months, he said.
Initially the project is restricted to 1,616 long distance buses plying between Hyderabad to Bangalore, Karimnagar and Chennai to Vijayawada and 1,476 JNNURM buses in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Vizag. Later, the service will be introduced for ordinary buses also.
The pilot project will be tested in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, after which it will be introduced in regions where JNNURM and long distance buses ply.
After the completion of coding bus stops, unique IDs will be displayed at the respective stops.
