Championing the cause of energy conservation, ace badminton player Saina Nehwal and her coach and former all-England champion Pullela Gopichand have joined the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM). They have acted in short films promoting energy conservation in the state.
Officials, including chief secretary PK Mohanty, watched the short films at the SECM meeting held at the Secretariat here on Thursday.
The films aim at educating people on how to save energy using natural light and air, besides promoting the use of ISI-marked motors and capacitors by farmers. They appeal to the public to buy only star-rated electrical appliances, the more the number of stars, the higher the appliances’ energy efficiency will be.
“The short films will be screened at all cinema theatres shortly. We are also planning to screen these short films on TV channels,” an official of SECM said.
