Y Nandita, a 30-year-old software engineer, was found dead at her residence in Padmavathi Colony, Uppal on Thursday evening. Her mother Padmavathi found her hanging from the ceiling in her room on the first floor of the house around 5 p.m.
A suicide note was found in the room. “The note says she was depressed after the death of her father a month ago. She was unmarried and lived with her mother and brother here,” said Laxmikantha Reddy, inspector, Uppal police.
Nandita, who had been living in the US for the last seven years, came here on a two-month vacation. It is learnt that she was under stress and lacked peace of mind. Though she was in the city to attend her brother’s wedding anniversary last month, she went to the US and returned on January 9 after which she was visibly depressed.
Nandita had gone to the US for her PhD after graduating from IIT-Madras. Before joining a software company in the US three years back, she had been a research associate with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). A case of suicide was registered and the body sent to the Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.
