A 27-year-old woman software engineer, who married another techie against her parents’ wish, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her residence at Manikonda in Raidurgam police limits here.
According to police, a petty issue between the newlywed couple made her decide to commit suicide. The house-owner, who saw it, alerted the police who shifted her to Osmania General Hospital for treatment and her health condition is said to be stable.
The woman, however, denied that she had attempted suicide and said she just consumed sleeping pills to get some sleep.
The woman is Neha who works at a reputed IT company in the IT Corridor at Madhapur and resides at Manikonda. She loved another software engineer, Lakshmikanth Reddy, and married him four months ago allegedly against their parents’ wish.
A little after midnight on Saturday, around 1 am on Sunday, Neha consumed more than ten sleeping pills after a heated argument with her husband.
When she fell unconscious, the house-owner saw her and alerted the police.
“Neha was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for proper treatment. After a medical examination was conducted by the doctors there, she was taken back home in the early hours,” Raidurgam police inspector A Balakoti said.
Lakshmikanth Reddy, who allegedly absconded after Neha’s suicide attempt, visited the hospital and escorted his wife to home after she was discharged.
The Raidurgam police registered a case under Section 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of IPC and recorded Neha’s statement.
The woman said she had consumed sleeping pills due to lack of proper sleep and that she did not attempt suicide.
She also claimed that she had no disputes with her husband.
