HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old married woman committed suicide on Monday night after she was allegedly molested by her husband’s friend at Boya basti in Madannapet. The victim, Revu Priyanka, hanged herself in a relative’s house leaving a suicide note. It was also learnt that a couple of days ago she tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train near Kachiguda.
A month ago, she had approached police alleging that her husband R Aravind’s friend Jaydev Reddy, who was also their neighbour, had molested her. Reddy was then arrested by the police, however, victim’s husband disowned her suspecting her character. The victim went into depression and took the extreme step, Madannapet police officials said. Priyanka and Aravind were married for two years and were issueless.
A suicide note was found from her room. “In the note, she wrote that she did not want to live anymore as she was depressed due to the past incidents and expressed sorry for her action,”KVP Raju, Madannapet inspector said. Based on her complaint, a case under IPC section 354 for outraging women’s modesty was registered against Reddy last month as he was sent to judicial remand. Based on a fresh complaint from the victim’s father, a case under section 306 of IPC for abatement of suicide has been registered against Jaydev Reddy.
