Comfort Takes the Cake

HYDERABAD: Previously, it was only in the West where there was always a pressure to look good which has now slowly crept into our country as well. The natural leaning towards donning Western garb has also taken precedence over Indian clothes. With so much importance being given to our appearance, there is always that perennial question of whether one should wear traditional clothes or follow western trends.

Youngsters today argue that we must learn to go with the flow and therefore taking up new trends is a great option. But a handful of people still believe that traditional clothes represent our culture and identity.

Tradition has a way to go with Indian culture. It has been modified by many generations representing culture, beliefs and tradition. Traditional wear carries lot of history in its designs and patterns. It fits every auspicious occasion and adds glamour to already existing natural beauty and as our attire describes who we are , traditional wear is not something you take lightly. It’s my free will that makes me go for the Indian look

I’m comfortable with both traditional and western clothes. The whole thing about what I should wear depends on that particular day’s occasion. However, I feel Western trends tend to offer freedom of expression. One cad add his or her own tastes and ideas to them and Western clothes are quite classy, stylish and attractive

– Rakesh Galebhe, short film actor

I personally believe that we should keep a balance in all things and hence, it is inappropriate for one to completely set aside their traditional clothes and become a follower of western trend or vice-versa . We can still follow western trends but should not shy away from traditional clothes. This way we will be following new trends, yet promoting our culture and be very much attached to our roots

– Anil Kumar, CAD engineer

Following new trends helps people, especially teenagers, cope with peer pressure as it results in acceptance among liberal and contemporary people. Now a days college girls are mostly seen in western wear as it is more comfortable. This is because of the fact that it sets a good impression on others by signifying that you are very much in touch with the world and came from a polished background. So , I personally prefer western clothing as I find myself very comfortable and good looking too
