Pregnant Woman Falls into Open Nala, Dies

The cover of the nala which was believed to have been opened for the ongoing Metro railway works has been left unattended

HYDERABAD: The lethargic attitude of civic authorities in attending to open drainages in the city has claimed another innocent life. A 26-year-old pregnant woman died after she fell into an open nala near Chikalguda crossroads on Wednesday.

According to Gopalapuram police station SI M Gangadhar Reddy, the nala near Uppal bus stop (Oliphant bridge) in Secunderabad was overflowing due to a sudden downpour making it invisible for pedestrians. The deceased was identified as Satyavani. She fell into the nala which ran along a footpath.

The cover of the nala which was believed to have been opened for the ongoing Metro works has been left unattended. After about three-hours of search operations by the GHMC rescue team the body was traced about ten meters away from the spot where she had fallen.
