HYDERABAD: With increasing incidence of violence and discrimination against women, empowering girl students physically, emotionally and financially has become imperative, said J Jayasree, director of women empowerment cell (WEC) of Bhavan’s New Science College.

Jayasree said girl students would be equipped with skills to deal with critical situations and self-defence techniques taught through WEC. Besides conducting programmes on gender sensitisation, girl students would be taught entrepreneurship through the cell. The WEC would be inaugurated at Bhavan’s College on Thursday. A day-long seminar will be organised on Nirbhaya Act and domestic violence to create awareness among girl students. Commissioner of Collegiate Education Shailaja Ramaiyer and IGP (CID) Charu Sinha will be present at the launch of WEC.
