HYDERABAD: Realising the importance of creating an awareness on violence against women, Bhavan’s New Science College, Narayanguda, set up a women empowerment cell on Thursday. “As per the UGC guidelines, every college is supposed to have a women empowerment cell to ensure safety of women on the campus,” said J Jayasree, director of the newly-formed cell and professor at Bhavan’s New Science College.

The cell comprises faculty, both men and women, acting as a guiding force to the students in educating them about the existing laws on the security of women. “We will organise seminars on women empowerment and also conduct self-defence classes,” Jayasree said.

A seminar was held with sessions on the Nirbhaya Act, domestic violence and relevance of women education. Kondepudi Nirmala and Kondaveeti Satyavati took part in the seminar.
