HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police commissioner informed the High Court on Monday that the police arrested the real culprit, Soumyajit Basu, and filed a charge sheet in the case of a ghastly road accident at KPHB Colony in Ranga Reddy district on March 1 this year. He admitted that the court’s intervention s resulted in the arrest of the real culprit.

The accident claimed the lives of two techies and caused injury to another who were all returning from the house of alleged culprit who gave them a party at his Bachupally residence and were travelling in the same car. Though it was Soumyajit who was driving the car and caused the accident with his rash driving, he lied to the police that it was one of the deceased who had driven the car.

Accordingly, the FIR was registered by the police. However, upon receiving a letter from Sujit Mukherjee, a professor from Kolkata, whose son Uttiya Mukherjee too died in the accident, the court converted the letter as a PIL and directed the Cyberabad police commissioner to investigate the case and report status to the court. Neeladri Ghosh, who was also in the car, was the first complainant in the case who misled the police saying that another deceased, Sudip Ghosh, was driving the car.
