Action Plan for Charminar Project

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will soon prepare an action plan for taking up demolitions and removal of encroachments on the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP) site.

A team lead by mayor Majid Hussain, MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar, local corporators visited Charminar on Saturday and expressed dissatisfaction on the progress of the project.

The commissioner has directed the town planning and engineering officials to take up the demolition drive immediately. Mayor has called for a review meeting on Monday with Charminar MLA, area corporators, zonal commissioner and senior officials of the GHMC. Mayor said that lots of people who were affected have already taken cheques and again started reconstructing buildings which is highly objectionable. To expedite the works, he asked the GHMC commissioner   to take up demolitions duly following legal procedures.

Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that this project is pending since 1986 due to various reasons. He informed that nearly 15 to 20 properties were yet to be demolished for which there is a need to call people for talks by engaging a lawyer to sort out the issues.. Somesh Kumar said business is increasing tremendously at all the tourists spots. He assured the shopkeepers and residents not to feel apprehensive about their business and their cooperation is needed for the completion of the CPP Project at the earliest. Once the project is completed the flow of tourists will increase and automatically their business will improve, he said.
