HYDERABAD: A delegation of elected representatives and officials on Monday toured the national capital to study recycling and waste management.
They also met Union ministers to address the issues related to development of Hyderabad city.
The delegation led by deputy CM Mohammad Mahmud Ali visited a waste recycling plant at Jahangirpuri. The plant makes bricks and tiles used in laying pavements. These are made using recyclable material from construction and demolition of houses.
They also visited a power plant at Okhla, which generates power from garbage. They learnt about the cost of setting up the plant and the amount of power it generates.
Later, the team met union Urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu and sought his department’s cooperation in developing Hyderabad and other municipalities.
Naidu told the delegation that the Centre has been supporting the State and would continue to do so. He also said that the Centre will financialy assist Telangana in building two-bed room houses for the poor. The deputy CM also met defence minister Manohar Parrikar and took up the issue of military closing down the Cantonment roads for public at nights. The defence minister promised to look into the matter.
