HYDERABAD: Governor ESL Narasimhan called upon the youths to donate blood and help the poor and needy. Narasimhan distributed awards to persons who have donated the maximum units of blood in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States on Monday.
A function was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society at the Raj Bhavan on the occasion of World Donors Day.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor advised the blood banks to take utmost care in collecting, preserving and distributing the blood. He urged them to give priority in providing blood to the poor.
Narasimhan advised blood banks to maintain all safety standards while collecting the blood from donors and supplying it to the patients.
He said the government or the Red Cross Society can not afford costly equipment at the blood banks and hence called upon the philanthropists to donate generously for better equipment.
Indian Red Cross Society vice-chairman N Ramesh, Telangana Red Cross Society chairman T Paparao and AP Red Cross Society chairman Justice K Lakshman Rao were present.
Apart from educational institutions, NGOs, government departments and other sectors, the blood donation awards were given to individuals from IRCS district branches too.
While, Nalgonda MLA Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy stood first from Nalgonda district for donating blood 10 times, it was A Natraj from Mahbubnagar who stood first in the state for donating blood 115 times.
