HYDERABAD: Keeping in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting the benefits of Yoga, Hyderabadis too came out in large numbers to celebrate the traditional healing therapy, on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
While Sundays are usually synonymous with starting the day late morning, many residents from different parts of Hyderabad took to an early start by performing various ‘Asanas’. From schoolchildren to cabinet ministers to senior IAS officers and police commissioners, everybody celebrated in Yoga Day celebrations on Sunday and vowed to lead citizens on the path towards healthy living. Raahgiri, a joint initiative by Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), Happening Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police celebrated Yoga Day at the IT corridor near Gachibowli.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand took part in the event and highlighted the importance of Yoga and the benefits that it offers.
“Yoga helps in gaining control over one’s mind, body and soul. People must regularly practise Yoga to lead an active, healthy life,” said CV Anand, and added that the Cyberabad Police wants to make it the most of the ‘Happening’ day in Hyderabad. Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ESL Narasimhan also celebrated International Yoga Day at the Raj Bhavan. He advocated the importance of yoga as a spiritual therapy.
“One is truly healthy only when one is not just physically fit but also mentally and emotionally balanced. Health is not a mere absence of a disease, it is a dynamic expression of life, in terms of how joyful, loving and enthusiastic you are. This is where Yoga helps. Postures, Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation, are a holistic fitness package of this excellent practice,” said Narasimhan, after practicing Yoga for over an hour under the guidance of a Yoga teacher.
Meanwhile, 9,000 cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) performed Yoga at the Parade grounds in Secunderabad. Led by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH)’s ‘Yoga Protocol’, students from educational institutions across the city performed 16 asanas, Kapalabhati and Pranayama at the Parade Grounds. Several hospitals in the city and NGO’s, residential welfare associations and others also conducted special Yoga sessions.
SCR Celebrates World Yoga Day
South Central Railway celebrated International Day of Yoga at the Indoor Stadium of Railway Sports Complex here Sunday. State Co-ordinator of Art of Living Foundation, Murari Mohan led the session by displaying various Yoga Asanas, Pranayama, meditation to the people present. SCR General Manager P K Srivastava stressed upon the importance of practicing yoga in everyday life. He said that the initiative taken by the PM to declare is laudable and praiseworthy.
