HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will distribute nearly 2,500 auto tippers under ‘Driver cum Owner scheme’ for door-to-door collection of garbage in the city limits under Swachh Hyderabad programme, said GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar here Saturday.
Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had announced during the Swachh Hyderabad programme held in June, that about 2,500 auto tippers would be deployed to take up door-to-door garbage collection in the GHMC limits to make Hyderabad a clean city.
Following the Chief Minister’s announcement, GHMC has invited applications from youth to take up door-to-door garbage collection. Preference will be given to the existing workers engaged in garbage removal using tricycles, provided they have a driving licence. Youth who are willing to take up garbage collection, will be given training to get a license and loans will also be arranged through GHMC to the eligible candidates, added Somesh Kumar. About 1,000 persons have applied so far, expressing willingness to take up garbage collection.
The GHMC will help poor applicants to pay their EMIs. The selected candidates will be allotted accommodation. They have to collect garbage from houses with the help of one helper and a fixed amount will be collected from the house owners for the service, he said.
A person can earn around Rs 40,000 per month through door-to-door garbage collection. Auto rickshaws will used in the slums where there is no possibility for entry of auto tippers. Interested candidates can contact the deputy commissioner concerned to submit applications.
