Theatre Owners to Use Online System for Paying ET

HYDERABAD: To make cinema theatres and multiplexes pay entertainment tax as per the tickets sold, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has developed a web service online system. The online system would be implemented from March.

With the help of online system, the theatre owners have to upload information in a format developed for the purpose, ie, how many seats have booked and how many have been vacant in each show on a daily basis. By way of doing this there will be clear transparency about how many tickets have actually been sold for which the theatre owner concerned can pay the entertainment tax.

GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar along commissioner of commercial tax department Anil Kumar held a meeting with owners of  theatres in the GHMC limits with regard to entertainment tax.

The special officer said that theatre owners have agreed to pay entertainment tax in a more transparent manner.

Anil Kumar said that there are nearly 165 theatres in the GHMC limits and Rs 60 crore was collected as entertainment tax from June to December last year. Approximately Rs 7 crore was being collected every month.
