RTC to Promote use of Biodiesel to Lower Down Fuel Expenses

HYDERABAD: The state-run Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) plans to operate buses using biodiesel on a largescale, owing to mounting fuel expenditure.

Presently APSRTC is using high speed diesel for its buses. HSD costs `62.80 per litre. but in February the prices of HSD have come down by about `10 per litre. With the decrease in prices, RTC is saving about `40 crore per annum, according to officials of the corporation.

In September last year, the corporation floated the idea of using bio-diesel in its buses, as it was `7 lesser than the HSD.

Now its prices have further come down by about `10 per litre. And the corporation plans to buy biodiesel, only if the prices are lesser than that of HSD, which would further save money for the corporation. Now, the officials are inspecting bio-diesel manufacturing plants and negotiate prices.

“Right now we are inspecting the biodiesel manufacturing plants,” said K Chandrasekhar, chief mechanical operations, APSRTC.

When asked about the prices the manufacturers are quoting for biodiesel, Chandrasekhar said that information would be revealed only after completing the technical bid.se of Biodiesel to Lower Down Fuel Expenses
