GHMC to Take Up 1,015 Road Repair Works

The estimated cost for the works is pegged at Rs 55.75 crore

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will take up 1015 road repair works as part of the first phase of Swachh Telangana-Swachh Hyderabad project in the city.

The amount has been sanctioned by GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar and tenders will be invited soon to take up the works as per rules.

A team of mentors and nodal officers deputed by the GHMC had identified  8,303 civic works under the Swachh Telangana-Swachh Hyderabad project recently. The estimated cost to complete the works was pegged at Rs 718.10 crore. Considering the huge cost involved, GGHMC decided to prioritise the works. Accordingly, the special officer has sanctioned 5071 works to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 195.91 crore in the first phase.

The special officer has sanctioned Rs 9.35 crore for 109 works relating to repair of black top (BT) roads. As many as 906 cement concrete (CC) roads will be laid at an estimated cost of Rs 46.40 crore. Other works to be taken up in the first phase include construction of 522 storm water drains (Rs 21.89 crore), works related to 881 under ground drainages (Rs 38.34 crore), fencing works (Rs 1.88 crore), construction of 89 compound walls (Rs 4.26 crore), construction of 140 footpaths (Rs 4.63 crore), installation of 562 street lights (Rs 8,41 crore), 690 drinking water supply works (Rs 22,19 crore) and 1,083 other works costing Rs 38,51 crore.

The Telangana government had launched “Swachh Telangana-Swachh Hyderabad” in May aiming to transform Hyderabad into a clean city by involving citizens  and residential welfare associations.

The city was divided into 400 Swachh Units. Governor, chief minister, ministers and other elected representatives also adopted units as patrons.

During a week long programme, the mentors and nodal officers had identified the works based on the local requirements and listed a total of 8,303 works running to an estimated cost of Rs 718.10 crore.

Subsequently, the mentors and nodal officers examined and prioritised the works costing up to Rs 50 lakh for each Swachh unit. The works were identified based on local requirements keeping in view of the importance of the works.
