Soni Bai dies on spot with multiple injuries

HYDERABAD:  A 35-year-old woman, Soni bai, who is also a prime accused in a 2009 murder case, was brutally murdered, allegedly by her nephew on Tuesday morning. The incident took place at 7.30 near Rang Mahal crossroads at Putlibowli. 

Soni Bai is an accused in the murder of her relative Tuljaram. She is wife of Anand Das who is the priest at Lakshmi Narayan temple at Rang Mahal crossroads in Putlibowli. On Tuesday morning, the couple were attacked at their residence adjoining the temple by one Lakhan Yadav (21). Lakhan is a relative of the couple and lives in Valmiki Nagar.

According to police, Tuljaram’s murder was masterminded by Soni Bai in retaliation of her brother Narsingh Das’ murder in Nanded of Maharastra. She was arrested in 2010.

Soni Bai and Anand Das suffered multiple injuries. While Soni Bai died on the spot with 13 injuries, Anand Das is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

He sustained multiple injuries on face, head and right hand. Their son, Kuldeep, a class 10 student, escaped the attack and later lodged a complaint with the Sultan Bazaar Police. A police patroling team  caught hold of the accused near Sai Baba temple at Chaderghat while he was being chased by the deceased’s tenant, Sai.

The accused Lakhan Yadav is the nephew of Tuljaram, who was murdered in 2009. Lakhan bore a grudge against Soni Bai ever since, police said. He has been arrested and a murder case has been registered.
