Metro Rail Trial Run Held from Miyapur to KPHB

HYDERABAD: The second mainline testing of trains on Stage-2 between Miyapur and Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) covering a distance of 4.4 km of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Project got underway by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited on Thursday.

After getting approval from the Electrical Inspector General to charge the stretch, L&T Metro Rail started the testing on Thursday.

Fourteen trains will be test run on this track from Miyapur to KPHB covering a distance of 4.4 km. The stretch falls under Corridor-I between Miyapur and LB Nagar covering a distance of 29 km. The Miyapur depot is almost complete and ready to maintain trains. The LTMRHL chief executive and managing director V B Gadgil inaugurated the test run and also inspected the first test ride along with project director M P Naidu and other senior officials. Gadgil performed pooja before the first test run.

In August last year, LTMRHL carried out mainline testing of trains on the main tracks between Nagole and Survey of India, near Uppal under Corridor-III between Nagole to Shilparamam (28 km) as Korean-based Hyundai-Rotterdam which is supplying the model coaches for Metro Rail project carried out a functional acceptability test. “It is another important milestone for Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and for Stage 2 (Miyapur-SR Nagar). This is a testimony for bringing world-class metro rail facility to Hyderabad and very soon Hyderabadis will enjoy riding their own metro,” Gadgil said.

Before going for the trial runs, it has to carry out a series of important tests that include track alignment, communication, safety, surface, electrical traction, fail safe pneumatic emergency air braking, seating arrangements and several other engineering and safety tests. Only after passing these important tests, it will go for trial runs in a next few months.

The Metro Rail system under construction is a completely elevated system, generally run in the central median of the road. The viaduct structure for the elevated system is a box girder carrying two tracks on a single pier located on the median of the road.

Metro To Run from Nov: Keeping in view of prestigious elections to the GHMC this year-end, the Telangana government wanted the LTMRHL to commence Stage-1 from Nagole to Secunderabad Railway Station under Corridor-III and the Stage-2 from Miyapur to S R Nagar (11.90 km) under Corridor-I from Miyapur to LB Nagar for passenger service from Oct/Nov this year.
