Water Board to Levy Pumping Charges

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropiltan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) will levy boosting charges (pumping charges) from 59,805 water consumers living in uphill areas in all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) divisions of the water board from this month.

The revision in the boosting charges will net a revenue to the tune of ` 75 lakh to ` 80 lakh per month to the water board. The pumping charges are being levied to meet the increased expenditure due to commissioning of Phase-III Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme. Officials told Express that nearly 59,805 water consumers receive water from pumping stations and they have to pay `3 per kilo litre (KL). They are levying the charges as per the HMWS&SB Act. The new charges will be added in the water bills that would be issued from this month. The proposed revision in boosting charges vary from ` 50 to `500 per month. However, they said that slum-dwellers would be exempted from boosting charges.
