Flaunt Those Curves Right

Gone are the days when staying fashionable was limited to those small and medium sizes. With more curvy and voluptuous women embracing their sizes, flaunting curves is the trend today

On that note, City Express tells you how to stay stylish while fighting the scorching summer. You can look fabulous any time – in office, at a cocktail party or on a casual day out with your friends.

Office Look

Nothing is more flattering than a cotton saree during summer, irrespective of the body type. Experiment with soothing colours like lime, aquamarine or pale pink. You can opt for floral or kalamkari prints. If you are not a cotton person, you can experiment with light fabrics like chiffon. Avoid large prints as they bring attention to those broad areas. Pastel coloured churidars, pyjamas paired with simple kurta also work well for formal officewear

If you want to try western wear, invest in a well-fitted cotton trousers with mid or high rise waist in colours like beige, grey or navy blue. You can pair them up with varicoloured shirts in cotton or linen. Add suitable shades, printed scarves and a bright hand bag. Avoid tucking the ends of the shirt. Keep accessories to the minimum.

Party Look

Opt for light weight fabrics as they suit the weather and also come as a bonus for the plus size body type. Avoid black. Go for colours like wine red, lavender, champagne or coral which are trending. If you are wearing a dress, let it be knee length. Avoid horizontal patterns, especially laces arranged in horizontal fashion as they make you look broader. Accessorising your attire is also very important. Using the right ones will help you take the focus away from problem areas. You can opt for chandelier earrings or statement neck pieces.

If you want to keep colours to the minimum, you can choose a monochrome dress. You can couple it with a bright statement piece in pop colours.

Wearing two shades of the same colour is a clever technique to make your torso look taller. High heels also give the same advantage but do not compromise on your comfort in the bargain. If  stilettos make you uncomfortable, you can go for wedges or platforms. They look stylish and also provide a better balance. It spreads your body weight evenly. Pair it with a bright clutch and do not forget, a lot of confidence.

A Casual Day Out Look

For a casual day out with your friends, keep it simple and elegant. You can consider a maxi dress in cotton, chiffon or linen with thin vertical stripes that gives an illusion of cutting down the oodles of weight from your frame. You can also try wearing a well-fitted shirt dress in small floral prints or monochrome. Go for fun colours like citrus orange or sea green or play it safe with creams, whites and taupes keeping your complexion in mind. Pair it up with a belt which gives a cinching effect and accentuates the area where the waist is the thinnest. You could use a scarf like a belt for that unique look. For a long day out ditch the uncomfortable heels, and try flip flops in pop colours especially if you wearing monochrome. Beaded accessories also work well in summers.

So head out, shine bright and flaunt your curves in style this summer.

Keep in mind

1Accept and learn to admire your curves. Understand the shape of your body. Even in plus size, fashion options vary with different body shapes.

2 Wear clothes that fit you perfectly. It’s a wrong notion that loose clothes make you look thinner. They just make you look shabby and unflattering.

3Try to avoid certain shades of green. It is generally a risque colour for voluptuous body.

4 Don’t wear unnecessary layers of clothing. It does nothing but add weight to your frame

5Remember the idea is not to look thinner but be your gorgeous self

Expert advice

Priyanka Chigurupati a leading designer in the city says, “In summer, curvy women can benefit from longer silhouettes and colourful prints. I would suggest a maxi dress or kaftan that is cinched at the waist to elongate the silhouette. For a person who does not have a defined waistline, I advise they go for long necklaces that would shift the focus to the middle of your body”.
