Shock Ripples as Man Kills Mother, Wife and Child

HYDERABAD: It was darkness at dawn for the Reddy family at Balapur as Somireddy Rami Reddy began his killing spree at 4.30 am. The horticulture contractor, armed with a butcher’s knife first slit the throat of his sleeping wife Radhika (35), then he hacked away his 60-year-old mother Subhadra’s throat, and his two daughters got up and ran away, he chased down the younger Sai Akshaya and slit her throat in the kitchen. The killing frenzy ended when the elder daughter locked herself in kitchen and raised an alarm. Then, Rami Reddy ran down the street and jumped into a dry well, in a bid to end his life.

According to Pahadishareef police who reconstructed the sequence of events, “The elder daughter managed to stay inside the bathroom till others came for help,” said P Krishna, sub inspector, Pahadishareef. A murder case under section 302 has been registered and the accused has been arrested. The accused is the second son of Balwanth Reddy and Subhadra and has been living in a joint family for all these years. Ram Reddy wanted to separate from family and asked for his share in the property and land several times. On Friday, when Balwant Reddy returned from his morning walk, he heard Prathyusha crying and raised an alarm as his son ran out with blood on his hands.
