HYDERABAD: A tiff over marriage between a couple almost cost them their lives as, in the heat of the moment, they tried to immolate themselves in full public view on road number 5, Jubilee Hills on Sunday.

A good samaritan intervened in time and took them to the nearby police station where they were counselled and sent home.

Sukesh Verma (25), a priest, and Sai Priya (21), a junior artiste, have been in a relationship for the last four months. On Sunday, the duo were on way to give their vehicle for servicing and extracted petrol in a bottle.

During their conversation, the topic of marriage cropped up but the girl rejected the same. An irate Verma poured the petrol on himself and threatened to immolate himself forcing the girl to follow suit. A passerby intervened and took them to the jubilee hills police station. “No case was registered till now,” inspector S Venkat Reddy said.
