Government to Buy Sugar from Factories

HYDERABAD: Finance Minister E Rajender on Wednesday announced that the State government would purchase sugar from sugar factories in the State and supply it through the public distribution system.

Rajender Minister along with Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao held a meeting with representatives of the factories during which the latter requested that sugar be purchased directly by the government.

Rajender told them that the government had already taken a decision to this effect and said the Chief Minister would have to take a policy decision on imposing import duty on sugar bought from other States.

The dues to be paid by sugar factories to sugarcane farmers also came up for discussion at the meeting.
