Heroin Seized, Govt Staffer Among 2 Held

HYDERABAD: In a major catch, sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two persons including a junior accountant in the office of Director of Treasuries and Accounts, Telangana state, and seized one kg heroin, worth `one crore in LB Nagar on Monday. This is perhaps the first time that such a large quantity of heroin has been seized in the city. Based on a tip-off, the Hyderabad sub-zone team of NCB arrested Satyanarayana Narahari, a junior accountant at the office of Director of Treasuries and Accounts and an auto driver Y Yedukondalu, a native of Nuzivid.

Officials said that the NCB team caught the duo outside the Reliance mart near the Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar around 5.30 am while Satyanarayana was allegedly trying to purchase the contraband from the auto-driver. Sources said the autodriver is suspected to be a carrier of the contraband. It is learnt that he was bringing the material from Vijayawada for sale in Hyderabad. According to sources, the seized contraband could have come from Pakistan and after being smuggled into India, it changed hands and finally reached Vijayawada from where it was transported to Hyderabad.
