Get your fix of the latest global trends with Ommel

A shared love for fashion led longtime friends,Unita Chandan and Amrita Sokhy to join forces to form the label Ommel, barely six months old.

Though it is their part-time venture, the brand has created quite a splash for their cutting-edge and unusual creations that are hard to come by. “Being constantly bombarded by posts relating to top trends in fashion on platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, we found that most of those styles are not easily available in India,”explains Chandan, adding, “So we decided to focus purely on what’s the latest and the hottest.”

While it’s completely trend-based, Chandan assures that exclusivity is their top priority with styles being made in a maximum of five pieces each. “Some styles come in just a single piece,” explains Chandan, who holds a full-time job in her family’s garment business.

A healthy dash of flowy silhouettes and interesting prints mark their collections, in keeping with the fabrics they prefer to work with -- a mix of chiffon, georgette, crepe and cotton. One can also spot structured jackets, though it is crafted with soft fabrics.

Summer friendly

Launched in December 2014, the duo started working on it only in October after a lot of research into what’s making waves across the world. “We had a stall at Soul Sante recently and were sold out in a few hours,” shares

Sokhy who works as a merchandiser in a buying house. Their Spring Summer collection, brings in a lot of floral prints on off-shoulder blouses, strapless tops, maxi skirts and maxi dresses. We also spotted an electric blue top, christened The Blue Sapphire, with a lace hem, that we were quite impressed by. An uber feminine coral off-shoulder top, Lorraine, with intricate embroidery also our caught our eye. The piece can be teamed with shorts, skinny trousers or even a skirt.

While a few new pieces are expected at regular intervals, a complete new line for Autumn/Winter will be launched in

September. The colour palette will stick to muted and subtle shades with jackets and maxis being their main focus.
