HYDERABAD: Police have identified the two persons, who allegedly clubbed a 35-year-old man to death using iron rods at a hotel here on Friday night. The victim Mohammad Sohail knocked down by the assailants at Lakdikapool while he was returning home on his bike.

Though the victim ran to a hotel, situated opposite to Rangareddy district collectorate, to escape from the attack, the miscreants chased him and clubbed him with an iron rod causing death. The incident took place just a few metres away from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh State DGPs’ office.

CCTV footage helped the police to identify the accused, who are on the run. Special teams have been formed to nab them. Police are suspecting some more people might be involved in the crime. It is said that trade rivalry has led to the gory murder. Sohail used to sell imitation jewellery at his kiosk on the footpath in Ameerpet. The accused who runs another kiosk in Ameerpet had developed a grudge towards the victim, police said. On Friday night, Sohail, a resident of Hafeezbabanagar in Chandrayangutta, closed his roadside kiosk and was on his way home. At around 11 pm, when he reached Lakdikapool, a two-wheeler rammed his bike, and Sohail fell off the bike. Sohail had  lodged police complaints against the accused.

Seeing the assailants, Sohail took to his heels and took asylum at Hotel Sandhya, located opposite to Rangareddy district collectorate. He ran towards the cash counter seeking help. But the assailants chased him down and hit him with the rod, causing immediate death.“Sohail received head injuries and died on the spot,” said K Poorna Chander, inspector of Saifabad Police Station.
