HYDERABAD: In separate incidents, two persons were arrested for allegedly killing two six-month-old girls, police said on Saturday.

In the first case, one Mohd Saleem was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his six-month-old daughter. Saleem, who wanted a male child, allegedly used to torture his wife for giving birth to three daughters, the youngest one being the victim, police said.“On September 27, Saleem had a argument with his wife. Hearing the spat, the baby started crying. Saleem lost his temper and allegedly threw her on a sofa, from where she fell down on the floor,”  DCP V Satyanarayana said.

Although Saleem later took the baby to a nearby hospital, she was declared dead. It is learnt that during the course of investigation, it came to light that the accused had been harassing his wife on the grounds that she had given birth only to girls and not a boy.  Syeda Aliya and Saleem had three daughters - Naseem Fathima, Sakeena, and Zainab.  Based on the complaint, police registered a murder case and took up investigation. The postmortem report revealed that the infant died due to internal head injuries.

In another incident police, booked one Haleema Begum, for allegedly murdering a six-month-old daughter of her relative by throwing her into a well following quarrel with relatives.
