Harassment: Two Students Try to End Lives

HYDERABAD: Two college students, including a girl, attempted suicide in separate incidents both allegedly following harassment on their educational institution premises.

While one student tried to end his life due to presure from the college management to perform, a girl student consumed poison unable to bear the sexual advances from a classmate.

In the first case, an Intermediate student of a private college located in Adibatla police limits jumped off the third floor of his college building. The boy, Pavan Kumar of Warangal, has been pursuing his Intermediate (MPC) in the college.

The student, who secured good score in first year failed to concentrate on studies in the second year.  The students who noticed Pavan lying on the ground unconsciously alerted the college management.

Meanwhile, students gathered on the college premises and staged protests alleging that Pavan was harassed by the management for his failure to pay fee, which drove him to attempt suicide.

The victim’s family members lodged a complaint with the police who registered a case.

According to the complaint, the victim refused the proposal of his classmate to marry him. The student, however, started to harass her and pressurised her to accept his love. Recently, two students and a staff member of the college had threatened her with dire consequences, said family members.
